If you are a fan of Southern sweet tea but want something with a bit more of a refreshing kick, this Double Mint Sweet Tea is going to be your new go-to. It uses a double dose of mint to create a drink that is incredibly cooling and perfect for those days when you are just dreaming of summer.
This recipe is another fantastic way to use that Homemade Mint Simple Syrup we have been talking about lately. It pairs so well with the Minty Lemonade and the Virgin Watermelon Mojito Dirty Soda if you are looking to set up a full spread of seasonal drinks for a get-together.
Step by step instructions for double mint sweet tea
First, make the simple syrup unless you already have a mint syrup batch ready.
Making the mint simple syrup
Place sugar and water in a pot, and stir.
Stir over medium heat until all sugar is dissolved, like this.
Turn off the heat, steep mint leaves for 15 minutes. Remove the leaves, and voila! Mint syrup.
Making the mint tea
To get the tea started, you will want to boil four cups of water. Once it is boiling, remove it from the heat and let six bags of mint tea steep for about four minutes.
After you remove the tea bags, you will stir in half a cup of your mint simple syrup.
When you are ready to serve, fill your glass all the way to the top with ice. Pour that fragrant mint tea over the ice and then add a little more ice to top off the glass. I like to finish it off with a few fresh mint sprigs for garnish to really lean into that herbal aroma.
It is such a simple way to elevate a basic sweet tea into something that feels special and vibrant. If you have some extra mint leaves left over, they would be a great addition to the Watermelon Mojito, Dirty for your next happy hour!
