Double Mint Sweet Tea

Refreshing sweet mint tea, made doubly sweet by homemade mint simple syrup.

Ingredients
  

Mint Simple Syrup
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1/4 c water
  • 1/2 c packed mint leaves
  • OR 1/2 c of prepared mint simple syrup
Mint Tea
  • 4 cups water
  • 6 bags of mint tea
  • Ice
  • Mint sprigs for garnish optional

Method
 

Mint Simple Syrup
  1. If using prepared mint simple syrup, skip to the instructions for mint tea
  2. Otherwise, prepare mint simple syrup as below.
  3. In a saucepan, add sugar and water, and stir.
  4. Turn the heat to medium, and stir every minute or so until the sugar is dissolved. It takes about 5-7 minutes. Don't allow the mixture to boil.
  5. Once the sugar is dissolved, immediately turn off the heat, and add the mint leaves.
  6. Steep the leaves for 15 minutes, then strain or remove mint leaves.
Mint Tea
  1. Boil 4 cups of water. Remove from heat.
  2. Steep tea bags in hot water for 4 minutes, then remove tea bags.
  3. Stir in 1/2 cup of mint simple syrup. If you prepared the mint simple syrup above, stir in all of it.
  4. Fill your glass to the top with ice.
  5. Pour mint tea over ice. Add more ice to top off the glass.
  6. Garnish with mint sprigs, if desired.
