Step by step instructions with pictures for Shaken Blueberry Iced Green Tea recipe

Step 1: Steep the tea

Boil one cup of water and steep your green tea bag in a mug or measuring cup for 8 minutes. We are steeping longer than usual since the ice and syrup will dilute the tea later.

Step 2: Combine ingredients in a shaker

Add two tablespoons of blueberry simple syrup and one cup of ice directly into your drink shaker. Go here for detailed instructions with pictures of blueberry simple syrup.

Step 3: Add tea and shake

Gently pour the hot brewed tea over the ice and syrup in the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 30 seconds until well chilled and lightly frothy.

Step 4: Serve over fresh ice

Fill a highball glass with one cup of fresh ice. Pour the shaken tea over the ice and enjoy immediately.

Alternative Step: The traditional method

If you do not have a cocktail shaker, pour two tablespoons of blueberry simple syrup into your highball glass. Steep your tea for 8 minutes as described above. Add one cup of ice to the glass, gently pour the hot tea over the top, stir well, and top with extra ice.

FAQ for Shaken Blueberry Iced Green Tea recipe?

Can I use store bought simple syrup instead of making my own?

Yes, you can use store bought blueberry syrup if you are short on time, though homemade blueberry simple syrup gives the freshest flavor and most vibrant color. That’s my affiliate link.

Why do we steep the green tea for 8 full minutes?

Steeping the tea longer creates a stronger concentrate. Because the tea is poured over ice and mixed with syrup, a stronger steep ensures the green tea flavor does not get washed out.

Can I make a large batch of this iced tea in advance?

Absolutely! You can brew a larger pitcher of green tea and mix in the blueberry simple syrup ahead of time. Keep it chilled in the refrigerator, then pour over ice or shake individual servings with ice right before serving.
